focus on the positive.

ever since i can remember being me
i've wanted to walk my dog in central park
isn't that a funny wishlist?
it is, but it's mine, and yesterday -- i did.

ten miles from central park en route back
to dc from a weekend trip to vermont
we decided to take a detour
into the city for a second
to take it in -- for just a minute.

and for a minute it was all thrilling
the way it was when you went there for the first time
we happened to walk by the dakota
into the park
by the pond
near the boats

that's me in the picture up there
and even though
some of you may get to be in that life every day
it was a truly special moment in mine
and i was feeling really lucky in that picture.

and that's the thing--
it'd break your heart to know how much
isn't going right, right now
and how much i want
to crumble under the weight of it.

that's the other thing --
i don't get to do that.

instead: i get to tell you
about the beautiful walk i took yesterday
in central park
with my husband and my dog.

and how happy that made me.

  1. It's those small, fleeting moments that sometimes mean the most. I hope whatever's going on, you gain some peace sooner rather than later.
